Default Ancient Greece!!!

Being Greek it is natural for me to want to play in an Ancient Greek environment.

I think that Ancient Greece has many-many ideas for very-very cool missions and quests! Also, the surroundings, buildings and scenery can be inspiring, along with great new monsters that can be fixed into the game! Imagine going against evil Gods, Titans, monsters of ancient evil!

Think of the new classes that can be made! I am thinking that maybe a warrior type that is more agile, called a Myrmidon (One of Achilles’ elite ancient fighters!) or a Spartan (Ancient Greek Commandos) and maybe more classes like Seers (with powers of looking into the not so distant future) or Greek Archers, or … I don’t know. If you skim Ancient Greek History you can find many – many interesting things that could add to this ever fantastic game of GuildWars!!!

Thanks

I like the setting, although the character classes have warrior clone written all over them.

I think they should stop with the emulating real world places, and actually create something. What a novel thought. Get back to basics, Prophecies was good all around, FActions had a neat idea here and there, and some bad ones, and NF sounds pretty much the same.

I would however love to see a city of sunlight and great roman type columns everywhere, everyone wearing a white toga sort of thing.

I also love the idea... when the 'utopia' name came out, many thought it was a reference to greece for the next chapter, finally that name is only for projetcs. I'll really like the idea of a 'greek' based GW chapter... the only problem is that the armors... paragons already have greek kind armors xD, actually i think all sunspear order has greek armors.

Not really if you read up on Greek mythology.

NO MORE PROFESSIONS!... That's my only requirement for the new Chapter, I mean I can't think of ANY new stuff. All the new professions would most likely be weak or imba mixtures of the other professions, or something like that.

I kinda don't like Ancient Greek, but well, if u want it, you have your right. I would like to see some viking stuff or something, althought they kiiiinda seem to be in prophecies.

Hey there people!

1st thanks for all the opinions; they are all very interesting and debatable. I still think that Ancient Greece has many options! Ok I only proposed some, just from what I remember from school (and I am 30!) but imagine the possibilities if the people of GW investigate Ancient Greek mythology! I believe that classes can be made as well as new areas. We mustn’t forget how many classes can be made in other D&D based games. I say the more the better! Why not have as many options as possible.

Anyway, I would like to say something; maybe I am right, maybe not. I think there is a pattern in the GW worlds evolving in front of us. Has anybody read any Raymond E Feist books? Well if you haven’t you should know that his worlds are similar with those of GW. I am not talking about names of cities or nations, but the core idea. In the 70’s Raymond E Feist wrote a book called Magician. In that book and the ones that followed he talked about a world similar to Tyria, another similar to Elona and another similar to Kantha. He has written about more worlds and I am curious to see if the next GW will be based on one of his fantasies again.

Goodnight people
I still think Ancient Greece would be great fun, take a look at Titan Quest!

Knowing ANet, you'd have Ancient Greek flavored with something else, much like the Kurzicks are a blend of Germanic and ... crap... something else... Goth?

Well, you get the point.

More classes.. are you serious? There are still problems with Nightfall classes and skill balance issues with our current classes. I doubt they will release any new classes and I thank them for that.

sry for the offtopic:

you talking about early german tribes??

if so: I doubt kurzicks are a blend of germanic^^
the names maybe, but this whole family thing, etc. reminds me on other nations...(not that it's a bad thing, but that's not really like germans are or were like)

anyways...
greek style hmmm

well, ascalon is ancient greek like it's today

might be a good idea, but 1 chapter only greek?? nah...

and the classes are well... greek paragons, greek warriors and seers?(sight into the future? you know what skill your enemy uses 5 seconds before he knows it??)

Proof? I clearly remember them stating they WILL NOT release new classes for EVERY chapter.

I realy don't understand what the fuss is about. If someone doesn't like more classes he/she can stick with the ones that are in the game now. But the rest of us that like more classes and like experimenting with new options, would like to have more to play with. So, it doesn't matter if they said they will add new classes or not, because they will do whatever they like anyway and I don't think it will affect all those that don't want many class options!

Gladiator armor and alot of paragon armors resemble alot of what was in use at the time(note: resemble not exact replica's) Alot of the shields also resemble those used.

The classes he suggested were, fighters, seers, and archers.
The classes that exist are now, warriors, ritualists, and Rangers.

Still care to argue that I'm not really right and I need to read up on greek history? (mythology has nothing to do with it really, troy was invaded, myrmadons seers and archers existed)

I'll admit I said just warrior before, but eh, if that's what your on about you really need to find better ways to spend your time.

Greece would be cool I guess.

When they said NF was going to be African themed I was expecting lot of Ancient Egypt type things like Pyramids, Gods like the jackal headed Annubius, eagle headed Horus and so on.

I also thought Factions "Asian" theme would have armor that looked like the old Samurai armor with the mask-like helms.

I was dissappointed that both didn't have what I thougt, but in hindsight they really are just "loosely" based on these areas and are not direct copies, which is good because Anet made the new areas unique, like nothing you can find in the real world.

I would like to see an Aztec/Mayan themed area and to see temples like the ones found at Angkor Wat in Asia.

The problem with more classes is it imposes a broken meta such as the one we are dealing with right now. The classes and skills are broken and need fixing otherwise Guild Wars PvP shouldn't exist. New classes with new skills to the ALREADY NEW classes would just destroy the metagame. I'm all for a new PvE expansion sure, but new classes, no. Greek sounds just fine to me.

Wow, I already told you your classes arn't good enough and you repeat it again.

I will admit that a greek environment would be very interesting, with ties to Alexander and conquest, and many other greek influences, but the idea for simular classes is pointless, we can give Warrior Myrmidon Armor and a few new skills and you've accomplished a greek "class".

Now they could come up with something really interesting like Cavalry professions or something like the many greek war engineers who made many a marvel in weaponry, simular to a so called Alchemist. Legends like Greek Fire, and Archimedes Steam Cannon and Death Claw where amazing feats of science in ancient times. Trying to make a mildly different warrior is plain silly.
